Françoise, 80 years old

I love the mountains. Recently, I went on two long hikes, and right after that I was out of breath. I thought it was the altitude. I felt fine and had no idea I had cancer.

I’ve always loved the mountains, whether in summer or winter. I used to be a mountain guide.

It was the passion of my life. I’m very sensitive to colors. I was very lucky to see what others don’t see. My favorite place is the village of Bonneval-sur-Arc. I remember the days when we used to go out to tend the cows—that doesn’t exist anymore. Back then, it was a small mountain road. The glaciers I knew have disappeared, but some things remain nonetheless. It’s a village that can be self-sufficient. It’s a part of my life that I loved. I experienced some very powerful moments there.

The classic photo people take there is at La Tralenta, a small ski resort. When you arrive by road, there’s an old bridge that’s been modernized. You have to head into the village; there’s a small chapel there. You arrive at the village square and need to turn left onto a small road. There are pink flowers growing up high. You should also visit L’Écot, a small village above. Above L’Écot, there are trolls by the streams. I like to walk through the fields where there are poppies. The Col du Liserant isn’t far away.

I’ll let you bring me back a photographic souvenir from this place I love so much.
