Trees

Isabelle, 52

I love trees. I picture a photo where I’m lying in the grass and can see both the leaves and the sky at the same time. There’s something soothing about the color green. In Paris, there aren’t many landscapes like that; you find more of them in the countryside. I’m not thinking of any particular place, but this idea of multiple planes at once—this viewpoint—brings a different perspective.
From my bedroom window, there are trees, but I have to turn my head to see them. The first few days after I arrived at the hospital, I couldn’t stand the light. The shutters were closed.

It’s important to get away to see a different landscape, to be in a different setting. When you’re in a hospital bed, that’s exactly what you need. You’re facing illness and can’t move; imagining things or looking at a picture lets you travel.
