“In the project If There Were Only One Image, I ask hospitalized patients living with a serious, progressive illness or at the end of life what photograph they would like to see, to have, and that would bring them joy. For them, it would be a soothing image—a source of help and support that would bring them something positive.
These patients must cope with physical, psychological, and sometimes spiritual and cultural pain. They are free to request any photograph they wish (landscape, portrait, etc.). Following their request, I offer to go take that photograph—whatever it may be and wherever it may be—and to give them a print of that image to hang on the wall of their hospital room.”
